51st Annual Fall Conference

The 51st annual Criminal Lawyers’ Association Fall Conference will open for registration soon! The Annual Criminal Lawyers’ Association Fall Conference is Canada’s largest criminal law conference attracting more than 700 defence lawyers, judiciary, educators, reporters and other prominent guests from across Canada. Note, the Fall Conference is an in-person format only. Registrants are expected to attend in-person.

CPD Confirmed:

  • 1 hour of EDI
  • 1 hour 30 minutes of professionalism.
  • Substantive Hours: 7 hours and 50 minutes (if hours are not needed for EDI and/or professionalism they can be added to)

* Please note all Fall Conference registrants will be provided access to resources on the conference hub (access provided to registrants 48-hours before conference start date) that will provide registrants access to an additional 1 hour EDI. Details on one recorded session that will be made available provided in the agenda below.

Plus:  Approved for LAWPRO’s Risk Management Credit. Participants who attend the full two days of the program can claim the Risk Management Credit twice. Those attending for one full day can claim once ($50).

Comedic Performances by:

Jarrett Campbell is the fastest rising talent in Canadian comedy. His work has been featured on MTV, Comedy Network, CTV, SiriusXM and his debut comedy album, ‘Straight White Fail’, was nominated for Comedy Album of the Year at the 2020 Junos. Recently he recorded his second television set on the Jim Jefferies Gala at Just for Laughs in Montreal, appeared on Jeff Ross’s Roast Battle at JFL, can currently been seen on season one of Roast Battle Canada on CraveTV, as well as CBC Gem’s New Wave of Standup and was featured at the Winnipeg Comedy Festival. In 2019, Jarrett was nominated as the 2019 Breakout Artist of the Year at the Canadian Comedy Awards and as a writer he has previously been nominated for Best Writing in a Comedy Series.  From New York to Vancouver, Jarrett has been on stages all across North America and continues to tour regularly with Yuk Yuk’s. He has opened for the likes of Chris D’Elia, Theo Von, Andrew Schulz, Mark Normand, Andrew Santino, and many more.

With his unmistakable charm, Jeff Paul pushes the boundaries of comedy leaving no topics off limit. Jeff’s quick wit and unrestrained attitude often result in raw, embarrassing stories at his own expense.​ Jeff has opened for Louis CK, Gilbert Gottfried, and K.Trevor Wilson, is a Yuk Yuk’s regular, can be seen on Roast Battle Canada on CTV Comedy, and was selected for New Faces at JFL42 in Toronto. For 5 years he ran one of Toronto’s best weekly shows, Dope N’ Mic Comedy, at the famed Underground Comedy Club. It was also the first 420-friendly show in Just For Laughs history. In 2014 he founded the Icebreakers Comedy Festival in his hometown of Niagara-on-the-Lake.  His debut album “Delightfully Dark” is available through Comedy Records and on all streaming sites.

Victoria Yeh’s unique style….dynamic and progressive. Classically trained, Yeh combines the purity of her musical heritage with the edginess of progressive fusion. She lights up the stage with her infectious energy, her passion and her distinctive style, captivating audiences across Canada. Access to the Conference Online Hub will be emailed to all registrants at least 48 hours in advance to the email address provided when registering. Please be sure to monitor or spam/junk folders for materials. No sharing of materials is allowed as they are included with the registration fee. The CLA does not provide printed copies of the materials.


PLEASE REVIEW IF ATTENDING:

  1. We highly recommend all in-person attendees be fully vaccinated.
  2. The venue will be following all local government protocols. Refer to https://covid-19.ontario.ca/public-health-measures
  3. Stay home if you feel unwell or are exhibiting any COVID-19 symptoms. If unwell, we ask you to complete a COVID-19 test and quarantine until a negative result is confirmed. If needed, COVID-19 tests can be purchased locally. Please note, with currently circulating COVID-19 variants, it is common for rapid tests to be unable to detect COVID-19 until several days into infection – hence even if you have symptoms consistent with COVID-19 and are testing negative, please do not attend. Access to the conference recordings will be available by December 5 on the Conference Hub.

Cancellation Deadline:

Cancellations will be accepted in writing if received by 12 noon (ET) on or before November 1, 2023. Cancellations are to be sent to support@criminallawyers.ca. A $35 admin fee will apply. No refunds will be accepted on or after November 2. The substitution of registrants is not accepted unless emailed to support@criminallawyers.ca 72 hours prior to the event start time. The sharing of registrations is not permitted.

The CLA reserves the right to alter or cancel, without prior notice, any of the arrangements relating directly or indirectly to an event, for any circumstances beyond the CLA’s reasonable control. If the CLA cancels the event, registrants will be offered a full refund. Should circumstances arise that result in the postponement of an event, registrants will have the option to either receive a full refund or transfer registration to the same event at the new, future date.

In the case of inclement weather, unless otherwise notified by CLA, the event will still take place. When an event proceeds as planned, there will be no refunds should attendees not be able to attend as a result of weather. The CLA will also not be liable to refund registration fees should the event be impacted by a transit strike, strike lock-out, accident, civil disturbance or any other cause whatsoever beyond their control.

  • The exhibitor space will be in the Ballroom Foyer – where all coffee breaks and Friday’s cocktail reception will be held.

  • Security personnel will be on duty between 7 p.m., Friday, November 17 and 8 a.m., Saturday, November 18; however, the CLA is not responsible for any lost or damaged items.
  • Wifi is included. However, exhibitors requiring telephone or hardwired high-speed lines will need to make arrangements directly with the hotel banquet office. Any additional fees for telephone/internet are to be paid directly to the hotel.
