Bail Practice Direction as of June 1, 2026
SENT ON BEHALF OF CHIEF JUSTICE SHARON NICKLAS
The Ontario Court of Justice strives to be a fair, accessible, and innovative Court that delivers impartial and timely justice, and ensures all participants are treated with dignity and can take part meaningfully.
It is a priority for the Court to be able to offer fair, effective, and timely bail hearings.
In order to do that the Court has issued an updated Bail Practice Direction which will go into effect on June 1, 2026. It is important for all justice participants to familiarize themselves with the Direction in advance of that date.
The updated Bail Practice Direction (fr) sets out the Court’s expectations for bail proceedings, and in particular addresses:
- filing materials
- time targets for hearings and,
- identification of complex bail matters
We look forward to working with all our justice partners to improve the bail system for everyone.
