Individual Pronoun use

The CLA supports diversity and inclusion. As such, we encourage our members to educate themselves on the understanding, importance and sensitivity around the use of personal pronouns and avoiding misgendering people.

Pronouns are often viewed as part of a person’s identity – making it more important to respect and understand the use of them. Mocking, minimizing or misgendering a person can alienate, insult or make a person uncomfortable. Using correct pronouns can help create a respectful and inclusive community – something the CLA strongly encourages.

Many of our members (and people we deal with on a daily basis) use pronouns in their signatures, emails and social media. These are often “he/him/his, she/her/hers or they/them/their”- please respect the person’s right to note this. It is their choice and is important to them. By all means, people do not have to note their pronouns, but it is a choice to be respected.
